History

Botta-Design has been designing and creating wristwatches for clients like Junghans AG, Bestform and Watch People since 1986. During this time models such as the Junghans-Solar-1, the UNO, the TRES series and others were produced - and some of them still enjoy market success to this day. In the year 2000, Botta-Design itself took over sales of its watch collection, since which time it has been continuously expanding the product range.

Awards

Botta wristwatches have already received over 20 renowned design awards, both in Germany and abroad. Some of them are exhibited in the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design and the Museum für angewandte Kunst (Museum of Applied Art) in Frankfurt.

Product concept

Watches from Botta-Design are characterized by a concentration on the bare essentials. The salient design features of every Botta-Design wristwatch are functional clarity and a high degree of technical aesthetic which is underlined by the choice of materials and the precision of the workmanship.

Klaus Botta developed the UNO one-hand watch in line with this philosophy back in 1986. Ever since, he has been considered the inventor of the modern one-hand watch – and the pioneer responsible for inspiring a whole series of one-hand watches made by other manufacturers.

Even at first glance, the one-hand watch’s reduced approach to displaying the time gives an approximate idea of the time. If more precise information is required, Botta-Design one-hand watches feature a precise scale and a hand which is especially tailored to it, allowing you to work out the time to within just a few minutes.

The real strength of this display principle lies without doubt in everyday time-keeping and the ease in which the time of day is presented with such clarity.

Botta Design - Uno 24, One Hand
The UNO 24 one-hand watch gives the wearer the chance to approach time in a completely new and far more conscious manner.It presents the entire day at a glance. During the course of each 24-hour period, the single hand of the UNO 24 completes just one full rotation.The watch's special scale means that each time of day is indicated by an individual position of the precise hand.Even a fleeting glance is sufficient to show the wearer instantly and clearly how far the day has already advanced.A delicate line marks the point of transition from one day to the next.The moment the watch hand crosses this line, the date jumps forward to show the new day.

In other words, the UNO 24 indicates the course of the day in analogue form:

The positioning of the watch hand on the dial corresponds to the position of the sun in the sky. What is more, the precise scaling means that the time of day is shown with an accuracy of around five minutes – after a short period of familiarization, the wearer will be able to tell the time even more precisely. The real strength of the UNO 24, however, lies in its simple yet impressive ability to present "an entire day at a glance" in a precise, analogue graphic form.

Botta Design Duo 24, One Hand
Global premiere - the first ever world timer based on the one-hand principle.

Our world may be growing together, but one border remains – time.

The DUO 24 allows this border to be easily overcome. A dual one-hand watch, it shows both the local time and the time at one additional time zone, using just one hand in each case.

This is the simple yet amazingly logical principle which the DUO 24 uses to give its wearer reassurance when dealing with different time zones.

The outlying main display shows the local time. Its striking 12-hour hand points to the same one-hand scale that has been used in the UNO for more than 25 years. The scale itself is mounted on a slightly inclined scale ring which guides the markings down to the lower-level 24-hour display.

The secondary display, which lies at a lower level in the dial, can show any second time zone the wearer chooses. Its delicate 24-hour hand and numbered scale are clearly distinct from the 12-hour main display.
What is more, an artificial horizon divides the inner 24-hour section into a day half and a night half, allowing the day half of the second time zone to be identified at a glance.

Ultra-flat, extremely lightweight yet highly durable – these are the qualities which characterize the HELIOS titanium wristwatch from Botta-Design.

Botta Design Clavius
The CLAVIUS “ring window” watch combines pure aesthetics with innovative function. Thanks to the subtle design of the watch face and its striking case, the timekeeping function remains discreetly in the background.

The fact that the scale has been reduced to four sections serves to showcase the elegance of the overall design, while ensuring that the wearer can still tell the time with the greatest of ease at any time.

The extremely flat titanium case with its eight screws is complemented by the titanium disc that is inlaid into the sapphire glass to lie flush with the watch dial, leaving a narrow ring – a window through which the dial and hands can be seen.

Botta Design Argos Lumen
Best possible readability in every situation – that was the goal during development of the ARGOS LUMEN model. This goal is achieved thanks to the watch's clear and high-contrast display, which is divided into two sections: an inner hour ring with 12 numbers, and the outer minute and second scale with its 60 markings. Thanks to their different colouring and heights, it is clear which hand relates to which scale.

A technical refinement additionally generates a shining aura around the hands: the rear sides of the hour and minute hands are likewise coated with Superluminova.

In bright light, the rear parts of the hands are charged with light reflected off the dial, so that they can then actively light up the dial in the dark.

In addition, a globally patented illumination principle ensures optimum readability even in darkness. The entire watch face is coated with brilliant white and highly luminescent Superluminova, making the whole dial light up in the dark. This additional light considerably improves the contrast of the hands, setting them off against the illuminated dial. Even after hours of complete darkness, this system of dual illumination guarantees optimum readability.

Botta Design Solus, One Hand
The SOLUS one-hand watch combines functional clarity and simplicity with a perfect overview.

Thanks to its integrative form and extreme flatness, the SOLUS is unobtrusive and elegant in appearance. The lack of ornamental features is the result of a conscious decision to focus only on that which is absolutely essential: time itself.

Being a one-hand watch, the SOLUS features only an hour hand. The hand and scale were specially developed for this type of display, and harmonize perfectly with one another.

The dial drew its inspiration from precision measurement instruments, and thus allows the wearer to check the time at a glance, though accurate reading of the time to the nearest five minutes is also possible.

The hand is coated with luminescent Superluminova, making it easy to read even in the dark.

Extensive technical effort was employed to reduce the thickness of the titanium case, with its eight screws, to just 4.9 mm. The visible height of the watch is no thicker than a one Euro coin.

The strap lugs are positioned underneath the circular case, which makes the watch much more comfortable to wear.

When we board an aeroplane, we are often travelling not only to another place, but also to a different time. We jump between time zones not only when travelling, however – many people have friends or relatives who live abroad, and our business contacts are often international, too.

If we wish to contact someone in another time zone, we find ourselves wondering what time it is there – is it early in the morning or late at night? Will my call prove to be a nuisance, or will it come just in time?

A quick glance at the MONDO provides the answer: it shows the local time zone in the 12-hour format plus another time zone of your choice in the 24-hour format.

While the central 12-hour display uses three hands, the outlying 24-hour display is based on the one-hand principle.

An artificial horizon divides the 24-hour ring into a day half and a night half. The positioning of the 24-hour display at the outermost edge of the dial gives the scale maximum resolution and makes it very easy to read. The delicate hand completes one complete rotation every 24 hours, thus showing clearly how far the day has progressed - and making unwanted wake-up calls a thing of the past.

The ARGOS Automatic is a perfect symbiosis between functionality and a timeless design.

The ARGOS Automatic combines classic watch-making craftsmanship with a contemporary design.
The time display was designed to consistently meet ergonomic and perception psychology criteria. Clear dial layout: divided into a minute section (black) and an hour section (white); distinct hour markings for quick orientation; maximum contrast between hands and dial; logical weighting of minute markings.

The TRES combines everyday practicality with elegance and refinement. The high-contrast dial – stripped to the bare essentials – is simplicity itself, and easy to read even in poor light conditions. The case is designed with no protruding parts, while the strap lugs are positioned underneath it to highlight its perfectly circular form.

Moving at eight steps per second, the central second hand of the TRES Automatik reflects the precision of the inbuilt automatic movement. The movement itself is visible to the rear of the watch through the water-blue glass bottom.

The UNO Automatic is the highest evolutionary stage of the UNO one-hand watch developed by Klaus Botta back in 1986.

This is why the UNO Automatic makes do with just one hand – the hour hand. Just like the hour hand of any conventional watch, it completes one rotation every 12 hours.

The dial with its angled scale ring avoids the so-called parallax effect due to the fact that the precise scale is positioned very closely to the specially developed hand, which makes the watch considerably easier to read.

The complex, multipart hand is also a special feature: at its centre is an elegant cylinder which completely covers the mechanism and showcases the clarity of the design.

During production of the UNO Automatic a seven-day process is carried out to achieve maximum accuracy by manually adjusting the accuracy of the high-quality Swiss-made ETA 2824-2 movement.
Only then is the UNO Automatic allowed to leave the factory.
